The Secretary General of Iraqi Resistance Movement Hezbollah al-Nujaba has slammed what he calls the US meddling in the country under the pretext of fighting terrorism.

In an exclusive interview with Press TV, Akram al-Kabi said the Iraqi government had never asked for the US help in its fight against terrorists. Kabi criticized Washington and its so-called anti-Daesh coalition saying Iraq’s popular mobilization forces had rejected any type of cooperation with them because of "America’s inappropriate intentions". 

He also questioned the US-led aerial campaign against alleged Daesh positions in Iraq, which started in 2014. The resistance movement chief said the US campaign had only helped anti-Iraq groups such as Naqshbandi and Baath party create problems. Kabi also accused the US-led coalition of carrying out airstrikes near Iraq’s army bases on many occasions.

What Syria’s Kurds “Think” They are Fighting For Versus Reality

Reports are emerging of widespread armed conflict between Kurdish militants and  Syrian forces. Concentrated in and around eastern Syria and the city of Hasaka, reports indicate that Syrian forces may be on the verge of completely withdrawing. 

The Kurdish offensive is being backed by US forces, including airpower overhead and special operations personnel on the ground. Syrian attempts to use its own air force to counter the spreading conflict appeared to be checked by what was essentially a defacto no-fly zone established by the US over eastern Syria.

Reuters in their report, “Syria Kurds win battle with government, Turkey mobilizes against them,” would state:

Syrian Kurdish forces took near complete control of Hasaka city on Tuesday as a ceasefire ended a week of fighting with the government, consolidating the Kurds’ grip on Syria’s northeast as Turkey increased its efforts to check their influence.

The Kurdish YPG militia, a critical part of the U.S.-backed campaign against Islamic State, already controls swathes of northern Syria where Kurdish groups have established de facto autonomy since the start of the Syria war in 2011.

Analysts and those sympathetic to the Kurdish cause, including their perceived role in fighting terrorist organizations in Syria including the self-proclaimed “Islamic State” (ISIS), see this as a positive development toward a greater and independent “Kurdistan.”

However, the facts on the ground appear to suggest a much more likely and unfortunate future.

A man named Yassar was the subject, a father who has now lost 3 of 4 sons in America’s proxy war for Syria. Yes, the Syria carnage is all about the overthrow of Israel’s closest and most hated enemy. This chaotic region’s reconstruct is all about US strategic reach and global resources remaining. That’s it, and everyone who knows anything knows I speak the truth. You don’t have to scan WikiLeaks Hillary Clinton cables to find out the United States planned and orchestrated the overthrow of Assad, but you can.

The Arab Spring, and especially Syria, will go down in the annual of human endeavor as a footnote to how war and carnage feed capitalism and the power hungry elites. Within this footnote future historians will not discover a WikiLeaks or Edward Snowden revelation on Putin not Russia, for there is no such revelation to be had. All anyone on the side of US hegemony has to show, are rumors and concocted reviling against the charismatic pragmatist, the former KGB man who tried to transform Russia. You can read in the notorious Panama Papers who somebody who knows Putin “may” have stashed some money in Panama. The multitude of western billionaires editorialize Vladimir Putin as the world’s most vile criminal. But not one shred of proof emerges the man did anything wrong. He “probably” had this secret agent killed, he “may have” ordered an airplane shot down, Putin has been “likely” to invade some borderland 100 times, but Nada, Nyet, Nimic, Nothing of the sort took place. Don’t take my word, research to find the proof. Proof Russia did anything wrong simply does not exist. How amazing is that?

Jan Tombinski, the European Union’s outgoing ambassador to Ukraine, has revealed that the EU’s sanctions against Russia are not really connected to the Minsk agreements on peace in eastern Ukraine, but on ‘Russian aggression’ against Kiev. Accordingly, the diplomat implied that anti-Russian sanctions may be extended indefinitely.

Interviewed by Ukrainian radio station Radio EC-Evropeiska Stantsiya on the eve of his departure earlier this week, the ambassador, who played a critical support role in the EuroMaidan riots which culminated in the February 2014 coup d’etat in Kiev, explained that Russia’s ostensible obligations under the Minsk agreements were in no way connected to European officials’ decision to prolong anti-Russian sanctions.

Accordingly, Tombinski noted, the sanctions can be extended whether Russia ‘complies with its obligations’ or not. The diplomat did not reveal what exactly those “obligations” might be, given that Moscow is not even a direct party to the conflict, but a mediator.

Instead, he suggested that the sanctions were connected with Russia’s “aggression” against Ukraine and the “annexation” of Crimea, whose population voted overwhelmingly to break off from Kiev and rejoin Russia amid the instability that followed the 2014 coup.

So Turkish President, a.k.a. Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan is about to make a high-profile visit to Tehran – the date has not yet been set - to essentially kick start the ATM (Ankara-Tehran-Moscow) coalition in Syria.

Anyone as much as hinting at such a massive geopolitical tectonic shift a few weeks ago would be branded a madman. So how did the impossible happen?

A major strategic game-changer – Russia using an airfield in Iran to send bombers against jihadis in Syria – had already taken place, with its aftermath spectacularly misreported by the usual, clueless US corporate media suspects.

Then, there’s what Turkey’s Prime Minister, Binali Yildirim, said last Saturday in Istanbul: “The most important priority for us is to stop the bloodshed [in Syria] as soon as possible.” The rest are irrelevant “details.”

Marathon 10-hour talks this weekend between the US and Russia in Geneva failed to produce a comprehensive plan to end the brutal Syrian war.

Cutting through diplomatic jargon, the fundamental problem is that the US remains in denial about its criminal role in fueling the war.

It is this role by the US and various foreign allies in supporting illegally armed groups that ensures the continuance of the conflict, which has been running for nearly six years with hundreds of thousands killed.

‘US pretends there are moderates in Syria, Russia understands they are all terrorists’

Washington and its allies – in particular this week Turkey – claim to be fighting terrorism. But the myriad global networks of weapons, cash, oil smuggling and military intelligence all testify to systematic state sponsorship of terrorism in Syria – in spite of random apparent anti-terror operations by these same sponsor-states.

US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said they were continuing to work on details for a breakthrough to end the violence. These precise details were not revealed, but it is reported that American and Russian military and technical experts are liaising on resolving them.

Kerry and Lavrov have obviously good personal rapport, and there seems to be an earnest mutual respect between the diplomats to find a solution in Syria. But how can a solution be found when one of the parties is part of the problem? Not only that, but the guilty party is in utter denial about its nefarious role.
