On Thursday 6th April 2017, in Damascus, Bashar al-Assad, the President of Syria, gave an interview to the Croatian newspaper Večernji List (Zagreb).

The following day, on Friday 7th April 2017, based on visually-obvious fake news about a False Flag chemical weapons attack in Khan Shaykhun (Idlib province), the US Rogue Faction attacked a key Syrian military airbase at Shayrat, near Homs, with fifty-nine Raytheon Tomahawk cruise missiles. Thirty-four of these missiles were shot down by Syrian air defences. The airbase was up-and-running again within twenty-four hours.

The US airstrike on Shayrat was an unlawful, unilateral attack on a sovereign nation which had not attacked the US and had no border with the US. The American aggression was not endorsed by the United Nations; civilians were killed in a local village; there was clear evidence of an explicit war crime. Q: Mr. President, we are already into the sixth year of the Syrian war. After the recent victories achieved by the Syrian Army in Aleppo and Palmyra, and the ongoing reconciliations, is there a glimmer of hope of an end to the Syrian war?

Assad: Of course, for without hope neither the country, nor the people, nor the state could withstand six years of an extremely ferocious war supported by tens of regional and Western countries, some of the wealthiest and most powerful countries in the world. Without hope, there wouldn’t have been a will.

Bashar al-Assad: Good morning.

Fabien Namias: A very simple question to begin with. Two months after the fall of Aleppo, can you say that you have won the war?

Bashar al-Assad: No. I do not think that we can talk about having won the war before beating all the terrorists throughout Syria. It is only an important step on the path that is going to lead us to beat and eliminate terrorism from our country; but I think that this will be a long path. And this is for one, simple reason: the terrorists are supported by a number of Western powers including France, the United Kingdom and Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar in our region.

Fabien Namias: You talk of a long path but can you summarize from a military perspective, the goals that you still have to reach?

Bashar al-Assad: It is clearly the case that when I talk about eliminating terrorists from our country, I mean recapturing every inch of our territory. In order to restore it to government control, because it falls on the government to retake control over the entire territory.

Suriye’nin maruz kaldığı evrensel savaş ve dünyanın faklı devletlerinden gelen teröristlere dış desteğe ilişkin soruya cevabında el Esad; dünyanın yüzden fazla ülkesinden gelen teröristlerin Suudi Arabistan ve Katar’dan finans, Türkiye rejiminden de lojistik destek aldıklarına dikkat çekti. El Esad kuşkusuz olarak da bu desteğin ABD, İngiltere, Fransa ve müttefikleri daha başka devletlerin onayı ve gözetimi altında olduğunu ifade etti.

Suriye ordusunun Rus dostların desteği ile özellikle IŞİD ve Nusra Cephesine karşı son zamanlarda oldukça ciddi ve önemli başarılar sağladığını belirten el Esad; ordu birliklerimizin bu başarılarını sürdürdüklerini, vatan topraklarının her karışının tamamen güvenlik ve istikrara kavuşmasına dek azimle sürdüreceklerini vurguladı.

Homs ve Halep’teki durumlar konusunda ise el Esad; Homs’ta, teröristlerin kenti terk etmeleri ardından kent ve ahalisinin güven ve istikrara kavuşarak normal bir yaşam sürdüğünü belirtti. El Esad kent civarında bir kısım bölgelerde ulusal uzlaşma çabalarının devam ettiğini ifade ederken, bu bölgelerde bulunan teröristlerin önünde iki seçeneğin bulunduğunu söyledi. Seçeneklerin ilkinin silahını teslim edip hükümet affından yararlanmalarıyla normal yaşamına dönmeleri olduğunu belirten el Esad; ikincisinin ise başka bölgelere gitmeleri olduğunu sözlerine ekledi.

President Bashar al-Assad gave interview to Cuba’s official state news agency Prensa Latina in which he said the Turks, Qataris and Saudis lost most of their cards on the battlefields in Syria and that Aleppo battle is their last card, affirming that there is strong harmony between Syria and Latin America, especially Cuba, on the political and historical levels and that hard work is needed in order to invigorate the different sectors of this relation.

The following is the full text of the interview:

Question 1: Mr. President, thanks for giving Prensa Latina this historic opportunity of conveying your point of view to the rest of the world about the reality in Syria, because as you know, there is a lot of misinformation out there about your country, about the foreign aggression that is taking place against this beautiful country.

Mr. President, how would you evaluate the current military situation of the external aggression against Syria, and what are the main challenges of Syrian forces on the ground to fight anti-government groups? If it is possible, we would like to know your opinion about the battles or combats in Aleppo, in Homs.

Aleppo battle is the last card for the Turks, Qataris and Saudis

President Assad: Of course, there was a lot of support to the terrorists from around the world. We have more than one hundred nationalities participating in the aggression against Syria with the support of certain countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar with their money and Turkey with the logistical support, and of course with the endorsement and supervision of the Western countries, mainly the United States, France, and the UK, and some other allies. But since the Russians decided to intervene in supporting legally the Syrian Army in fighting the terrorists in Syria, mainly al-Nusra and ISIS and some other affiliated groups, the scales have been tipped against those terrorists, and the Syrian Army has made many advances in different areas in Syria. And we are still moving forward, and the Syrian Army is determined to destroy and to defeat those terrorists. You mentioned Homs and Aleppo. Of course, the situation in Homs, since the terrorists left Homs more than a year ago, the situation has been much, much better, more stable. You have some suburbs of the city which were infiltrated by terrorists. Now there is a process of reconciliation in those areas in which either the terrorists give up their armaments and go back to their normal life with amnesty from the government, or they can leave Homs to any other place within Syria, like what happened more than a year ago in the center of the city.
