• Elvia Politi (E.P.) -- A very timely and urgent topic, propaganda is a phenomenon that everyone understands but is difficult to codify. Larry, can you explain to us what propaganda is and what its purpose is?

 

LARRY ROMANOFF (L.R.) -- A simple definition of propaganda is that it is the dissemination of information used to influence public opinion to adopt a certain point of view or to promote a particular political cause. It is generally a method of population control by those who have political or financial power. Propaganda is almost always associated with information of a biased or misleading nature, consisting of a mixture of facts, half-truths, and outright lies. Propaganda is not only psychological manipulation but actually "psychiatric" manipulation, directed to affecting the emotions of people and through this to control their thinking and behavior. It employs behavioral theory extracted mostly from the teachings of Sigmund Freud and, in its worst form, it is always insidiously manipulative, using the deepest fears or longings of people to create acceptance of a particular point of view, to become emotionally charged about that point of view, and to lead to action of some kind.

 

The two primary uses of propaganda have been to inflame a nation's public to support a war, and to engineer and promote social changes.

• Elvia Politi (E.P.) -- Tema attualissimo e urgente, la propaganda è un fenomeno che tutti comprendono ma che difficilmente si riesce a codificare. Larry, ci puoi spiegare che cosa è la propaganda e quale è il suo scopo?

Larry Romanoff (L.R.) -- Per dare un semplice definizione della propaganda, possiamo dire che è la diffusione di informazioni utilizzate per influenzare l’opinione pubblica affinché adotti un determinato punto di vista o per promuovere una specifica causa politica. In genere, è un metodo di controllo della popolazione da parte di coloro che hanno potere politico o finanziario. La propaganda è quasi sempre associata a informazioni di natura faziosa o fuorviante, costituite da un mix di fatti, mezze verità e totali bugie. La propaganda non è solo una manipolazione psicologica ma una vera manipolazione “psichiatrica”, con lo scopo di influenzare le emozioni delle persone e, attraverso questo, controllare il loro pensiero e il loro comportamento. La propaganda utilizza la teoria comportamentale derivata principalmente dagli insegnamenti di Sigmund Freud e, nella sua forma peggiore, è sempre insidiosamente manipolativa: sfrutta le paure o i desideri più profondi delle persone al fine di creare l’accettazione di uno specifico punto di vista, per renderle emotivamente cariche rispetto a quel punto di vista e per portarle ad agire in un determinato modo.

LARRY ROMANOFF (L.R.) -- Uma definição simples de propaganda é que a mesma, é a divulgação de informação destinada a manipular a opinião pública afim de aceitar um determinado ponto de vista ou incentivar uma determinada causa política. De um modo geral, é um método de controlo da população pelos que detêm o poder político ou financeiro. A propaganda está quase sempre associada a informações de natureza tendenciosa ou enganosa, consistindo numa mistura de factos, meias-verdades e mentiras. A propaganda não é apenas manipulação psicológica, é igualmente, manipulação "psiquiátrica" destinada a afectar as emoções das pessoas e, através delas, a controlar o seu pensamento e comportamento. Emprega a teoria comportamental extraída principalmente dos ensinamentos de Sigmund Freud e, na sua pior forma, é sempre insidiosamente manipuladora, utilizando os medos ou os anseios mais profundos das pessoas a fim de criar a aceitação de um determinado ponto de vista, de se tornarem emocionalmente carregadas em relação a esse conceito e de conduzirem a acções de algum tipo.

 

A propaganda tem sido fundamentalmente utilizada com o objectivo de inflamar o público de uma nação a fim de apoiar uma guerra e de conceber e promover mudanças sociais.

ELVIA POLITI (E.V.) -- O temă foarte actuală și urgentă, propaganda este un fenomen pe care toată lumea o înțelege, dar este greu de codificat. Larry, poți să ne explicice este propaganda și care este scopul ei?

 

LARRY ROMANOFF (L.R.) -- O definiție simplă a propagandei este difuzarea de informații utilizate pentru a influența opinia publică să adopte un anumit punct de vedere sau să promoveze o anumită cauză politică. Este, în general, o metodă de control al populației de către cei care au putere politică sau financiară. Propaganda este aproape întotdeauna asociată cu informații de natură părtinitoare sau înșelătoare, constând dintr-un amestec de fapte, jumătate de adevăr și minciuni. Propaganda nu este doar manipulare psihologică, ci de fapt manipulare „psihiatrică”, îndreptată spre a afecta emoțiile oamenilor și prin aceasta să le controleze gândirea și comportamentul. Folosește teoria comportamentală extrasă în mare parte din învățăturile lui Sigmund Freud și, în cea mai proastă formă a ei, este întotdeauna insidios de manipulatoare, folosind cele mai profunde temeri sau dorințe ale oamenilor pentru a crea acceptarea unui anumit punct de vedere, pentru a deveni încărcat emoțional cu privire la acel punct de vedere și pentru a conduce la acțiuni de vreun fel. In addition to the false-flag operation and its attendant lies that propelled the US into a full war with Vietnam was an enormous prior effort to manipulate public opinion and alter perceptions about the truth of Vietnam itself, which truth has never seen the light of day in America. Many Americans firmly believe to this day that their country entered Vietnam to protect and save the democratic South from invasion by the brutal communist North, and to contain Soviet "expansionism" and the "spread" of communism over all of Asia. But nothing in the official narrative was ever true, the US story a complete lie and entirely contrary to the reality.

 

 

For background, France had maintained Vietnam and parts of Southeast Asia as a forced colony since the late 1800s, and restored their colonial rule after the defeat of the Japanese in 1945, leading to increased resentment and military resistance, their total defeat in the battle of Dien Ben Phu in 1954 finally forcing the French to concede they had lost Vietnam. In an effort to restore peace to the region, UN negotiations produced a set of documents known as the Geneva Accords, which briefly created a temporary non-political boundary between North and South and directed that national elections be held for a government of the unified and soon to be free nation. And to specifically put aside any notion that the boundary was a partition, the Geneva Agreements stated that the military demarcation line was "provisional and should not in any way be interpreted as constituting a political or territorial boundary".
