GOP Congressman: If Russia Gave Americans Accurate Info, They Just Did What Media Should Have

During a conversation on MSNBC this afternoon, Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) claimed that President Barack Obama’s actions against Russia for hacking the election were all an effort to delegitimize President-elect Donald Trump and that Congress hasn’t been briefed on the findings from the intelligence community.

He also seemed to give Russia a pat on the back for providing American voters with accurate information.

After telling host Hallie Jackson that he has been informed that the various Congressional committees have yet to be informed on any assessments by intelligence agencies, Franks went on to say that there is nothing showing Russia hacked into voting systems.

Thus, in the lawmaker’s view, they just gave voters information that should have been provided by the media anyway.

“But the bottom line, if they succeeded, if Russia succeeded in giving the American people information that was accurate, then they merely did what the media should have done,” Franks noted.

Jackson asked Franks to clarify that statement and whether he’d be OK with Trump possibly rolling back Obama’s sanctions.
