NYT Editors Promote US/Russia Confrontation

by Stephen Lendman

Times editors support US imperial ruthlessness. They oppose normalized relations with Russia.

They urge unchanged hardline, militant, confrontational policies instead - wanting Trump to continue what neocons infesting Washington demand, Hillary their choice for president, not him.

Times editors“Among the first world leaders to congratulate President-elect Donald Trump was Vladimir Putin. And why shouldn’t he?”

“Just when relations between Russia and the West are at their most precarious point since the Cold War, Mr. Trump has been Russia’s defender and the beneficiary of Moscow’s efforts to influence the presidential campaign.”

“At times he has seemed almost intoxicated by the Russian president, praising Mr. Putin’s firmness and insisting that the two could resolve any differences if they met. Meanwhile, he has shown little concern that Russia poses a major strategic challenge.”

Fact: Times editors call this rubbish legitimate journalism.

Fact: Russia goes all-out for cooperative relations with all nations.

Fact: It’s worked long and hard diplomatically to resolve US-instigated wars in Syria and Ukraine - Washington consistently undermining its good faith efforts.

Fact: Claiming Moscow tried influencing US election results is willful deception - a Big Lie. Not a shred of evidence suggests it.

Fact: Trump “almost intoxicated by the Russian president?” He responsibly wants normalized relations if he follows through on what he said while campaigning - a hugely positive step, if pursued, to avoid confrontation between the world’s dominant nuclear powers, deserving universal acclaim, not condemnation.

Fact: Russia’s peace and stability offensive “challenge(s)” America’s permanent war agenda. Times editors support the latter over the former.

Times editors: “…Putin’s aggressive behavior (aiming) to revive Russian greatness…could result in the kind of dangerous miscalculations that often lead to armed conflict.”

Fact: Russia under Putin prioritizes peace. America is a warrior nation. Will Trump maintain tradition or go a different way?

Will he partner with Putin in resolving conflicts or continue them in multiple US war theaters?

Times editors: “Russia’s hacking of the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign to interfere in the election was brazen.”

“Even worse were actions that threatened human life and global stability, like Mr. Putin’s airstrikes against civilians in Syria, his positioning of nuclear-capable weaponry near Poland and the Baltic States, his annexation of Crimea and the war he waged in eastern Ukraine.”

Fact: Evidence showed US intelligence hacked DNC emails, not Russia. It’s fostering global peace and stability by combating the scourge of US-supported terrorism in Syria, wanting it eliminated.

Fact: Putin accommodated the vast majority of Crimeans, voting by national referendum to return to Russia, wanting a historic mistake corrected.

Fact: US-installed Kiev putschists continue waging war on democratic freedom fighters in Ukraine’s southeast - not Russia, as Times editors falsely claimed.

Times editors: “(D)espite the obvious need for the next president to be alert to Mr. Putin’s mischief and to be willing to resist it, Mr. Trump has so far been Mr. Putin’s apologist.”

Fact: Truth is polar opposite the above Big Lies.

Times editors: “Restoring Russia to power and to a central role in world affairs turned out to be more important to Mr. Putin” than normalized East/West relations.

Fact: Despite unapologetic US adversarial policies toward Russia, Putin continues going all-out for resolving differences diplomatically - failing because Washington consistently undermines his good faith efforts.

Times editors: “Mr. Obama was slow to recognize Mr. Putin’s revanchist mission, as were other Western leaders. Now that the threat is obvious, America and its allies cannot afford for Mr. Trump to make the same mistake.”

Fact: No Putin “revanchist mission” exists. No evidence suggests one - or anything suggesting he threatens any other nation.

Fact: America threatens humanity more than any earlier rogue state, waging endless wars of aggression for unchallenged global dominance.

Times editors, correspondents, columnists and contributors produce dreadful fiction for readers, pretending its news fit to print.
